In addition to week specific tasks assigned by the Garden Coordinator or Core Members, below are some regular tasks that are carried out every week:

  • Scrub clean the bird bath and fill with water (please do not use chemicals)
  • Weed any nut grass growing in pathways or beds (please use small spades to pull up nut grass, being extremely careful not to cut any irrigation lines that run through the pathways and beds)
  • Mulch pathways and social areas with wood chip (when available)
  • Chop arrow root to ground level when fallen and use as mulch or input to compost
  • Prune plants growing over the main paths in the garden
  • Prune dead banana leaves and fallen stems
  • Train grapes growing under the gazebo
  • Work with the Garden Coordinator or other Core Members to plant out communal beds with seasonal crops and harvest
  • Turn compost and water if dry (see our Resources page for more information about composting)
  • Water any new seedlings and back orchid (particularly the banana circle)
  • Mulch any communal beds with exposed soil to prevent from drying out
  • Fertilise beds with worm juice (using approximately 1:9 of worm juice to water.)
